An Australian competitive eater is now a world record holder, after scoffing down 276 chicken wings in only 12 minutes.

James was competing in New York at Highmark Stadium at the Wing It On! U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Championship.

He was up against some of the greats in the world of competitive eating such as the world-famous Joey Chestnut and 2 time Wing It On! champion Miki Sudo.

However, the high-profile competitors didn’t put off the Sydney local with Webb polishing off some 276 wings in the 12-minute competition.

That means that Webb finished off one wing around every 2.6 seconds or about 23 wings a minute.

Speaking to the media after the contest Webb said “If you told me this yesterday, I would have laughed in your face. I’m so shocked right now.’’

“I’m from Australia, man, I just make it up as I go along.

“I was just trying to clean the bones as best as I could. I know that I’m not as fast as (Sudo and Chestnut), but if they weigh leftovers and there’s less chicken, I have a chance. I guess my style works.”

Joey Chestnut ended up finishing second in this year’s competition after consuming an impressive 240 wings.

Two-time winner and reigning champion Miki Sudo came home in third place after he downed a total of 231 chicken wings.
