Scarborough Art Show

This year marks a quarter of a century since the first Scarborough Art Show began showcasing the region’s rich talent while also raising much-needed funds for Scarborough Public School.

From its humble beginnings in 1998, the Scarborough Art Show has become a cultural beacon of the Illawarra, attracting exhibitors from the area as well as across the state, while providing visitors with quality yet affordable artworks.

The show has only missed two years, due to COVID, and last year it proved to be a bumper event, raising funding for Scarborough Public’s much-loved art literacy program as well as a defibrillator.

“The Scarborough Art Show has been connecting our community for 25 years now. It’s an inspiring and joyful event as it presents beautiful artworks and crafts from exceptional artists, both professional and amateur, in a relaxed, scenic and informal atmosphere. The Show supports local talent and small businesses while allowing little Scarborough Public School to raise vital funds to enrich its educational resources for the benefit of the kids,” says parent and volunteer Melissa Barnard.

“So many people look forward to exhibiting and visiting each year, we are so lucky to be able to continue this special artistic tradition that reflects so much of the beauty of our area”.

To be held on October 7 and 8 this year, with Opening Night on Friday October 6, the Scarborough Art Show will feature renowned and popular artists such as Ashley Frost, Tanya Stubbles, Hal Pratt, Kate Broadfoot, Chris Duczynski, Anthea Stead and Gillian Day, while also giving new and emerging talent a platform to exhibit their work.

Showcasing everything from paintings, prints, photography, sculptures and jewellery to ceramics, there’s bound to be something for everyone. It’s a great time to shop for Christmas or just treat yourself to a special purchase while supporting a community school and local artists.

If you would like to get in early to purchase artwork and meet some of the artists, an 18+ opening night will be held on Friday October 6, complete with live music, canapés and pop-up bar. Limited tickets are on sale through Humanitix

The Art Show weekend is also a great opportunity to meet with friends and family at the scenic school perched on the Scarborough cliffs, with live music, coffee and cakes.

Families can join in the program of planned activities throughout the weekend. Help find the hidden street art throughout the school grounds, take part in the Scrapyard Orchestra or the Floor is Lava race, and more will be announced soon on our webpage. There will also be the opportunity for everybody to help create a special new interactive artwork!

With plenty of space among the grass and trees, the kids can have fun while you browse the art exhibition at leisure and enjoy a barista coffee and some food in the relaxed surroundings beneath the escarpment overlooking the ocean.
