Bring Back the Great Family Road Trip

Remember those great family road trips you went on as a kid?  Those were good times. The games of “I Spy”, a bag of Minties and their joke wrappers and fighting for elbow room with siblings on the back seat.  Favourite CD’s got played over and over until you knew all the words on every song and you’d always get to stop off somewhere exciting.

What will your kids remember?

Make new memories on a family road trip.  It’s a fantastic way to reconnect and spend time together. In the Illawarra there are just so many paths you could take, and just so much to see and do.

Head down the beautiful coastline that boasts magnificent beaches that stretch away into the distance, stunning natural bushland full to the brim with wildlife and not to mention awesome picnicking and camping spots, getting to great places is almost half the fun with all the discoveries you can make along the way. You may discover a new favourite family spot or restaurant. It may even become family tradition.

In Illawarra you could go in the other direction and head for the hills, there are some awesome day trips to many of the famous quaint and charming towns of the Sutherland with their sprawling dairy farms and picturesque meadows.  Stop at the Wildlife Park to feed kangaroos and hold koalas.

Perhaps head camping on the spectacular landscapes of the Royal National Park and work your way up the coast getting there. Discover seaside mining towns like Thirroul on your way through.

Take a trip on the Grand Pacific Drive, even just driving on this renowned route is a scenic experience in and of itself. Stop at the big lookouts like Stanwell Tops and Bald Hill and make sure to bring the camera for Seacliff Bridge.

Even pack the rods, reels and an esky and head off on a fishing expedition on one of the innumerable jetty’s that populate the coast north and south of Wollongong.

A family road trip in Illawarra is an exciting prospect, with great destinations in mind and a journey to enjoy, all you have to do is set off to have a memorable family adventure.
